How can I change the world if I can't change myself?

                                        Todd Rundgren

First let me say that I'm very glad that you at the very least have it inside yourself to even consider that you can change the world. The following list was my original idea of changing the world in 5 steps. I have revised this list recently but I want to leave it up here because I still believe that if you were able to do these things, you would indeed change the world.

1)Recognize that change will benefit all of us as individuals

2)Notice and avoid selfish ego driven mindset

3)Learn to forgive everyone no matter what

4)Ask yourself if your actions are in the interest of all humanity

5)Live each day mindfully in meditation or prayer

Perhaps it's simpler than that. Imagine if you were to look at every individual you meet and find the good in them. Whatever it may be. You would have to assume that everyone has something good in them. If you think hard about everyone you have ever met, I would be willing to bet you could think about at least one positive aspect of their personality or behavior. In fact, you would likely find that most people have many positive and useful qualities. I contend that if you run across someone who doesn't seem to have any, you are simply not looking close enough.

Once you have seen these things in someone, you must find a way to tell them, and let them know that you appreciate them. When someone recognizes something good in us, we tend to use those qualities even more. Even if it's subconscious, we will naturally respond with encouragement.

When I was a retail manager, I didn't expect everyone to bring the same skills and qualities, so I would look at each person closely and try to bring out those things which they did have. In this way, the team was balanced, appreciated and at least in a general way, motivated to succeed.

Perhaps if we can even make a slight difference in the way someone acts and responds in the world, we are truly changing the world. People are often blind to their own good qualities. We spend so much time scrutinizing ourselves, that we don't see some of the things that other see in us, and love about us.

Tell them, and you Change the World.
